Meeting of Consultative Council of Monitoring Promotion, Protection and Implementation of Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities
On June 23, 2017, the Public Defender’s Consultative Council of Monitoring the Promotion, Protection and Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilitiesheld its eleventh working meeting, which was attended by Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze, representatives of the Office and invited members of the Council. The Council discussed the issues of the agenda and other important issues.
Irine Oboladze, Head of the Department of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the Public Defender’s Office, delivered a report about the efforts taken and planned for monitoring the promotion, protection and implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilitiesand the processes ongoing in the field of mental health.
Challenges related to the rehabilitation programs for persons with disabilities, the efforts of the councils working on the rights of persons with disabilities at the local level, the role of local municipalities and their involvement in the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities were discussed at the working meeting.
The invited members of the Council praised the recent efforts of the Public Defender and his future plans. The consultative body will hold its next meeting in September.
