Training in National and International Mechanisms of Protection of Human Rights
On 27-28 October 2015 the Public Defender's Office held training for students of Shota Meskhia State University and Teaching University European Academy of Zugdidi. The theme of the training was "National and International Mechanisms of Protection of Human Rights".
Niko Tatulashvili, the Head of the Public Defender’s Department of International Relations and Communication, and Giorgi Gotsiridze, the lawyer of the Young Lawyers Association, briefed students of the issues of definition of civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights, the absolute and relative rights, the Constitutional Court as domestic institution for protection of human rights, national standards of the right to equality, the anti-discrimination mandate of the Public Defender and the court, the role of the Public Defender in establishment and promotion of standards of international human rights.
Up to 30 students participating in the training listened to historical description of the international human rights law. They got information about international human rights mechanisms, as well as international human rights standards and implementation of these standards at the national level.
The event was held within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Public Defender’s Office in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region” funded by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria.
