Public Defender Submits Amicus Curiae Brief to Court concerning Alleged Discrimination of Child with Disabilities on grounds of Nationality

On September 19, 2017, the Public Defender of Georgia submitted amicus curiae brief to the court with regard to an alleged discrimination of a child with disabilities on grounds of nationality.

According to the factual circumstances, a child with autistic spectrum disorders, who has a special residence permit in Georgia, is not able to enjoy the program Rehabilitation of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, approved by the Tbilisi City Assembly’s resolution, as the program is intended for Georgian citizens only. In the amicus curiae brief, the Public Defender presented the standards set by the national and international human rights institutions.

The child’s interests are defended in the Tbilisi City Court by the NGO Partnership for Human Rights.
