European Commission Organizes Regional Workshop about Equality Bodies in Tbilisi
On April 6-7, 2017, a regional workshop was held by the cooperation between the Public Defender's Office of Georgia and the European Network of Equality Bodies (Equinet) within the framework of the European Commission's Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) instrument. The theme of the workshop was: strengthening of equality bodies and elimination of violence against women. The workshop was attended by representatives of state institutions, international institutions and civil society.
The aim of the workshop was to share practices between the institutions of the European Union and the Eastern European countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) that work on equality issues. The practice of Georgia was reviewed by the representatives of the Department of Gender Equality and the Department of Equality of the Public Defender's Office.
The Public Defender emphasizes the importance of holding such an event in Georgia, as far as the Public Defender, as the body supervising the situation of equality in the country, attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange of experience on issues relating to elimination of discrimination.
