Training on Right to Health in Penitentiary Facilities

On November 14, 2016, training was held for members of the Public Defender's Special Preventive Group about the right to health in the penitentiaryfacilities.

Sociologist Iago Kachkachishvili and health expert Merab Kavtaradze briefed the training participants of the methodology of public opinion polls, questionnaires for prisoners, questionnaires for medical staff and other tools.

The event was held within the framework of the Open Society - Georgia funded project "Promotion of the Protection of the Right to Health in the Penitentiary System". The project is aimed at promoting the health of prisoners in the penitentiary system, as well as studying and evaluating the situation of preventive health care and prevention of diseases, including the relevant legal framework, impact of prison conditions on the prisoners' health and disease risk factors. The project also provides for the monitoring, which includes a survey, analysis of the medical documentation and field work.
