On November 14, 2019, Nika Kvaratskhelia, Head of the Department of Prevention and Monitoring of the Public Defender's Office, and Khatia Kheladze, representative of the Department, met with lawyers working in the Kakheti region.

The topics of the meeting were excessive use of force by law enforcement agencies, the problem of full and timely introduction of rights to the detainees, timely access to a lawyer. The lawyers informed representatives of the Public Defender's Office about other problems in the criminal justice system in the region.

The lack of space for interviewing detainees in police buildings, which impedes confidential meetings, was named as a significant problem.

Nika Kvaratskhelia and Khatia Kheladze discussed the annual and special reports of the Public Defender and introduced recommendations intended for various agencies.
