Information Bulletin of National Preventive Mechanism

The Public Defender has presented the third quarterly bulletin of the National Preventive Mechanism. The bulletin provides information about two important special reports, which was prepared and presented by the National Preventive Mechanism in autumn.

The research-based report "Requests/complaints procedures in the penitentiary system" of this scope and volume was carried out in Georgia for the first time.

Considerable part of the bulletin concerns the report of the state of children's rights in the boarding schools under the Orthodox Church and Muslim denominations of Georgia, which was prepared together with the Public Defender’s Center for Child’s Rights.

The document also reviews the restrictions on the right to a long-term visit as a disciplinary penalty in penitentiary facilities; offers information about the visits carried out by the National Preventive Mechanism to places of detention in autumn; offers a traditional column, which this time reviews the history of the penitentiary establishment No 8.

The bulletin includes an interview with UNICEF Representative in Georgia Sascha Graumann. Readers can see international news and legislative review in the context of international standards.
