Second Meeting of Consultative Council of Protection and Monitoring of Child’s Rights under Center for Child's Rights of Public Defender of Georgia

The ConsultativeCouncil of Protection and Monitoring of Child’s Rights under the Center for Child's Rights of the Public Defender of Georgia held its second meeting on October 2, 2017. Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili, employees of the Public Defender's Office and invited members of the Council discussed the main challenges and directions in the field of the protection of child’s rights.

At the meeting, the Public Defender of Georgia spoke about the monitoring of child’s rights, recommendations and its results, monitoring of kindergartens, campaign Safe Toy, infrastructure problems of public schools and efforts of the Office aimed at protecting child’s rights.

Maia Gedevanishvili, Head of the Center for Child’s Rights, talked about the problems related to the protection of child’s rights in the country, Public Defender’s recommendations on child’s rights and the results of the monitoring conducted in juvenile institutions. She also emphasized the need for the activation of the 3rd Additional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its effective implementation in practice.

Members of the Council discussed child poverty, social security system, social service needs, strengthening of psychology service, violence against juveniles, rehabilitation of victims of violence, effective implementation of juvenile justice and child care referral procedures.

The ConsultativeCouncil of Protection and Monitoring of Child’s Rights was founded in November, 2016, based on the order of the Public Defender of Georgia. The main goal of the Consultative Council is to support monitoring of the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the Public Defender of Georgia.
