Meeting of Public Defender’s Consultative Council of Protection and Monitoring of Child’s Rights
On 1 March 2019, the Consultative Council of Protection and Monitoring of Child’s Rights under the Public Defender of Georgia held its fourth meeting and discussed the current and planned activities of the Public Defender's Office in the direction of monitoring the child’s rights situation.
Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze introduced the Strategy and Action Plan 2019-2021 of the Department of Child’s Rights at the meeting. The document was developed by the Public Defender's Office in 2018 and aims to raise the effectiveness of the Office in terms of responding to the violations of child’s rights, strengthen the monitoring mechanism, promote the realization of child’s right to participation and involvement, and to raise public awareness of human rights protection mechanisms.
Maia Gedevanishvili, Head of the Department of Child’s Rights, spoke about the main tendencies and problems identified by the Public Defender's Office in the field of protection of child’s rights in 2018, including child abuse, violation of the right to life and state care issues.
Participants of the meeting discussed challenges in the protection of child’s rights and the activities planned by the Public Defender's Office, including the main issues of parliamentary and special reports.
