Proposal with regards to right to healthcare of minors in mountainous regions of Georgia
The Public Defender of Georgia addressed the Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia with a proposal to develop a relevant state strategy and action plan for realization of the right of minors to healthcare in mountainous regions of Georgia.
The Centre of Child’s Rights of the Public Defender of Georgia examined situation in legal rights of children mountainous regions of Georgia - municipalities of Mestia, Oni, Ambrolauri, Kazbegi, Khulo, Shuakhevi and Keda. As a result of this study, it became apparent that there are no medical centres and hospitals in the number of territorial units and villages and this circumstance restricts the right of minors to continuous use of state medical services.
Despite the fact that according to normative content of both international legal acts and existing internal legal acts relevant state agencies carry obligation to provide equal access to medical service and establishments for all children and for this purpose to carry out effective measures, to this day the state has yet to ensure the principle of territorial access to the right to healthcare on the appropriate level.
