ENOC Workshop on Child Protection
On May 15-17, 2017, Mariam Botchorishvili, representative of the Center for Child’s Rights of the Public Defender of Georgia, participated in the workshop organized by the European Network of Ombudsmen for Children(ENOC) by the support from the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria. The themes of the workshop were: strengthening and independence of the national institutions working on child’s rights, introduction of sexual education in the curriculums. The conference was held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The mandate of the European branch of the International Child Resource Institute (ICRI), monitoring and advocacy, as well as review of individual complaints, were also discussed at the workshop.
During the conference, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria and the United Nations Children's Fund organized a round table on the practices and work specifics of the national institutions working on the child’s rights, where the Public Defender's representative introduced the functions and the mandate of the Center for Child’s rights of the Public Defender of Georgia. She also talked about the challenges faced by Georgia in terms of protection of child’s rights and stressed the need for raising public awareness for the purpose of implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, eliminating violence against children, ensuring child safety and proper level of education.
