Workshop of Human Rights Academy of Public Defender on Gender Sensitive Reporting on Conflicts

On December 18, 2017, the Human Rights Academy of the Public Defender of Georgia helda workshopfor journalists and students of the department of journalism on the theme: "The role of the media in gender sensitive reporting on conflicts and peace-building".

The workshopwasaimed at raising awareness of gender sensitive and ethical reporting on women-related issues by the media, discussing the existing practices and getting familiar with international experience. Pray the Devil Back to Hell, a movie describing the fight of the Liberian women to end a conflict in the country, was shown in the second part of the workshop.

During the discussion,representatives of the media talked about the ethical standards and terminology used in covering conflicts, as well as the relevance of reporting on issues in conflict and post-conflict space.

The workshopwas led by Medea Turashvili, Senior Advisor to the Public Defender of Georgia on Human Rights issues in the Conflict-affected Regions, and Ana Iluridze, Head of the Department of Gender Equality of the Public Defender’s Office.

The workshopwas held with the financial support of UN Women.
