Training of Public Defender’s Academy of Human Rights on the Role of Human Rights in Conflict Transformation

On December 14-18, 2015, the fourth training - The Role of Human Rights in Conflict Transformation – was held within the framework of the Public Defender’s Academy of Human Rights. Civil society representatives participated in the training.

At the opening of the training, the Public defender talked about the activities of the ombudsman’s office in terms of protection of the rights of conflict-affected population.

The main aim of the training was to brief the civil society representatives of the role of protection of human rights in conflict and post-conflict situations.

The training was led by international experts Jorgen Johansen and Michele Parlevliet. They talked about the conflict analysis methodology, the roles of various actors in conflict resolution and peace building, and analyzed the relationship between human rights and conflict transformation.

One of the important functions of the Public Defender is to carry out educational activities on the issues of human rights. For this purpose the Academy of Human Rights was opened in 2015. The academy is a structural unit of the Public Defender’s Office and is aimed at raising awareness and analytical skills on legal and other aspects of human rights in various target groups.
