Meeting with Members of Council of Europe Delegation
On 10 September 2019, Public Defender of Georgia Nino Lomjaria met with Deputy Director of the Directorateof Political Affairs of the Council of Europe Daniel Khoshabo, Advisor to the Directorateof Political Affairs of the Council of Europe Marcel Kapp and Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia Christian Urse.
The purpose of the meeting was to share information about the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia for the 19th consolidated report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The Public Defender provided information to the members of the Council of Europe delegation on the rights situation of the conflict-affected population, the mandate of the Public Defender and activities of the Public Defender’s Office. Special attention was paid to the rights situation of people living in the occupied territories and the main challenges faced by them, such as restricted freedom of movement, problems relating to documentation, restricted access to education and health care.
Nino Lomjaria thanked members of the Council of Europe delegation for their involvement in the process of peaceful resolution of the conflict and emphasized the importance of evaluation of human rights situation in the occupied territories by the international community.
The meeting was also attended by Meri Kochlamazashvili, Advisor to the Public Defender on Human Rights in Conflict-Affected Regions.
