Meeting on Violent Behavior Change Programmes in Poland and Georgia

On 25 February 2019, the Violence Behavior Change Programmes of Poland and Georgia were discussed at the meeting with representatives of NGOs and stakeholders, which was organized in partnership with the Public Defender's Office and the Human Doc Foundation.

At the opening of the meeting, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterina Skhiladze spoke about the challenges related to violence against women and domestic violence in Georgia. Stanislaw Brudnoch, a representative of the Human Doc Foundation, generally reviewed the efforts carried out or planned in the direction of prevention of domestic violence and communication with abusers.

Participants of the meeting received information about the Polish legislation and perspectives of the elimination of domestic violence. Polish expert Ana Voloshchuk talked about the educational and violent behavior change programmes being implemented in Poland.

When reviewing the current situation in Georgia, it was noted that the persons placed in the penitentiary institutions and probationers are mainly involved in the violent behavior change and rehabilitation programmes. The necessity of expanding the behavior change programmes, as well as the involvement and support of the state, was underlined at the meeting.
