Training for Public Defender's Staff

On September 16, 17 and 18, 2019, employees of the Public Defender's Office have been undergoing three-day training on amicus curiae brief, freedom of expression, hate speech and promotion of discrimination; Internal court practices and precedents have also been discussed at the training.

At the event, Ketevan Meskhishvili, a judge of the Tbilisi Court of Appeals, talked about the basic notion of freedom of expression in terms of judicial practice, the practice of the Constitutional Court and common courts relating to freedom of expression, hierarchy of values ​​and equality within freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

International expert Ivana Roana reviewed the international practices and standards of mechanisms regulating hate speech and freedom of expression.

The training is organized by the USAID-funded Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia (PROLoG) program.
