Statement of the Public Defender of the ongoing rally in front of the Parliament of Georgia

The Public Defender of Georgia is responding to the rally ongoing in front of the Parliament of Georgia and emphasizes that the right to peaceful assembly and demonstration is a fundamental human right enshrined in the Constitution of Georgia and international mechanisms.

At the same time, the Public Defender reminds the demonstrators that it is inadmissible to carry out violent and/or illegal actions during the rally.

The Public Defender hopes that the demonstrators will stop violent actions and continue to express their protest peacefully. On the other hand, it is important the police to do their best to ensure protection of citizens and peaceful conduct of the demonstration.
