Public Defender Meets with Bishop of Lutheran Church of Württemberg

On September 19, 2020, Public Defender Nino Lomjaria and Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze met with the Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Württemberg and Head of the Union of Lutheran Churches of Germany, Frank July.

Nino Lomjaria informed the Bishop and persons accompanying him of the mandate of the Public Defender, as well as the activities of the Tolerance Center operating under the Public Defender of Georgia, as well as the involvement of religious confessions in it. The guest showed interest in the state of religious freedom in the country. The Public Defender reviewed the recommendations developed by the Public Defender’s Office and offered in the parliamentary reports over the years, and spoke about the challenges faced by religious organizations in terms of equality in Georgia.

The Lutheran Church in Württemberg and the Georgian Lutheran Church have had a friendly and cooperative relationship for many years, as the Swabian migrants, who have established 23 German settlements and the Lutheran Church in Georgia, are from the very Württemberg lands.
