Public Defender's Office Hosts Delegation of Moldova’s National Preventive Mechanism

On October 18-20, 2017, members of the National Preventive Mechanism of the Republic of Moldova paid a study visit to Georgia. The aim of the visit was to get acquainted with the activities of the National Preventive Mechanism of Georgia. The Moldovan Delegation consisted of Public Defender Mihail Cotorobai, representatives of thePublic Defender's Office and members of the Board of Fight against Torture.

During the visit, the guests met with the Public Defender of Georgia, Ucha Nanuashvili. Representatives of the Department of Prevention and Monitoring of the Public Defender's Office of Georgia briefed the Moldovan colleagues of the methods of monitoring of penitentiary establishments, facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and phsycatric institutions, as well as the methodology of supervising the implementation of recommendations.

The Georgian and Moldovan colleagues made a joint study visit to the National Center for Mental Health and Drug Prevention, Tbilisi Temporary Detention Isolator and Penitentiary Establishment No 16, where the guests were acquainted with the specifics of the inspection of the institutions by the Public Defender's Special Preventive Group.
