Events of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and the Association for the Prevention of Torture

On 4-5 November 2019, Giorgi Burjanadze, Deputy Public Defender of Georgia, and Akaki Kukhaleishvili, Deputy Head of the Department of National Preventive Mechanism, attended events organized by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and the Association for the Prevention of Torture in Strasbourg.

During the visit, they participated in a working meeting organized by the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), which addressed the challenges relating to the rights situation of defendants in the first hours of their detention. Special attention was paid to the necessity of effective monitoring and appropriate mechanisms in this direction. The information obtained within the framework of the event will help us improve our methodology of monitoring police facilities.

At the same time, on November 4, a conference was held in connection with the 30th anniversary of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture. Special emphasis was put on the need for harmonious efforts of international and local monitoring mechanisms and the necessity to enhance/support each other's activities. #CPT30
